If you would like to spend a day in Bolivia, I'd recommend spending a day in La Paz. It is 182.2 square miles and 11,942 feet above sea level. It has a population on 877,363 people, and has many good connections with other cities, including Madrid (Spain), Guatemala City (Guatemala), Bogotá (Colombia), and Buenos Aires (Argentina). [To see a full day spent in Argentina, click here]. La Paz is a fabulous place; a beautiful mix of different ethnic backgrounds, and covers many different elevations, which makes exploring a beautiful, breathtaking adventure.
Here is a sample day in Bolivia.
Plaza España
I would recommend staying in the Hotel A La Maison. People say it is a bit overpriced for La Paz, but absolutely worth it, being beautiful, yet homey. To see more hotels, click here. A La Maison's rooms are beautiful and spacious, and they include their own kitchens, so be sure to make yourself breakfast before heading out for the day. A La Maison is quite close to "Plaza España", which would be a great place to meet up with friends around eight or nine before starting your day.
8:30: Meet up at "Plaza España"
9:00: If your whole group is here, and you are done looking around you should head off to "El Mercado De Las Brujas".
9:20: If traveling by car you should now have arrived at El Mercado De Las Brujas. This is a witchcraft market frequently visited by tourists. Here you can find cool items and cures. If witchcraft doesn't appeal to you, there is a regular market surrounding El Mercado De Las Brujas.
12:00: I'd recommend buying lunch from a booth around noon. Many market stalls serve amazing Bolivian food, just make sure it is clean and fresh.
12:30: Begin the thirty minute ride to the Presidential Palace.
1:00: Arrive at the Presidential Palace. This is a beautiful building, known for being burnt down, and recreated many times. It is a beautiful building, and you should enjoy exploring around there.
5:00: Begin the 20 minute ride to "Mongos", a classic, popular bar and restaurant. If you are unable to drink, head home before the rowdy crowd arrives, but if you're overage, why not stay and meet new people. The bar is open until 3 AM, for a night of fun. Though it is 30 minutes away from A La Maison, it is worth it.
